Reverend Arrested at Border After Allegedly Stealing Over $25,000 in School Exam Fees.

 

A TEACHER who disappeared with over K700, 000 intended for the Examinations Council of Zambia (ECZ) for GCE examinations candidates has been intercepted at Zombe Border Post as he re-entered Zambia from Uganda.

Last month, Elifas Banda 35, also a Reverend at a named church allegedly stole K713, 600 in cash, the money was intended for payments to ECZ for GCE examinations candidates and in addition, a Samsung cell phone valued at K4,000.

In a statement issued, police spokesperson Rae Hamoonga said police in Mbala apprehended Mr Banda at the border post.

“The Zambia Police Service wishes to inform the public that yesterday, April 03,2025, police officers in Mbala of Northern Province apprehended the suspect, Mr Banda. The suspect was intercepted at Zombe Border Post as he re-entered Zambia from Uganda,” he said.

Mr Hamoonga said Mr Banda is currently in lawful custody at Mbala Police Station.

He said arrangements are underway to dispatch officers from Matero Police Station to facilitate the transfer of the suspect to Lusaka, where the case was initially reported and is being investigated.
