‘OPPOSITION FLOODING THE NATION WITH LIES,’ MMD LEADER NEVERS MUMBA ATTACKS FELLOW OPPOSITION LEADERS

OPPOSITION Movement for Multiparty Democracy (MMD) leader Dr. Nevers Mumba has accused fellow opposition leaders of flooding the nation with lies aimed at undermining President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration.

Dr Mumba, whose party is an alliance partner with the ruling United Party for National Development (UPND) has claims Zambia is embroiled in a “relentless war between good and evil,” as a result of lies peddle by the opposition.

Addressing a press conference on Tuesday at the UPND secretariat, Dr Mumba Mumba launched an attack on fellow opposition leaders whom he accused of weaponizing social media to mislead citizens ahead of the 2026 elections.

“The media space has been dominated, especially social media, has been dominated and poisoned by lies. Zambians are being served on lies by a relentless group of individuals who feel threatened by many things, including the nearness of the 2026 general election and also President Hakainde Hichilema’s relentless fight against corruption,” Dr Mumba said.

He said there is a need to pray for “all gullible Zambians who are daily drinking from the chalice of poisoned waters,”

He said Zambians have fallen prey to the propaganda of those in opposition.

“The victims of lies are the ordinary Zambians who start their day scrolling through social media instead of the Bible. They believe every propaganda they read on social media. Eventually, they vote based on false information and then cry for the rest of those five years,” he said.

He called on the party’s media team to relentlessly counter opposition propaganda with facts.

“So they want to convince Zambians. They want to convince Zambians that HH has destroyed the economy and has made Zambia the sixth poorest nation on earth. The truth, however, is that both of these two sins were committed by the Patriotic Front.

“So the day you, media team stop citing what made Zambia the sixth poorest country, then you are losing this battle. And you must understand that to win at the ballot, you first have to win at the voice,” he said.

“If you media team stop citing what made Zambia the sixth poorest country, then you are losing this battle. The day you stop reminding people, the criminals become saints, and the saints look like criminals,” he said, “Speak the truth in the morning, at breakfast. Speak the truth at lunchtime. Speak the truth at dinnertime. Do not relent.”
