A Zambia National Service (ZNS) officer who allegedly self-harmed by stabbing himself in the neck has succumbed to his injuries.
Leroy Mumba, a ZNS captain based in Monze, was rushed to Monze General Hospital and later evacuated to Maina Soko Military Hospital in Lusaka for further treatment.
On February 18, 2025, his wife found him unconscious in a pool of blood with a deep cut on his neck in a spare bedroom.
Southern Province Commanding Officer Auxensio Daka confirmed that the victim, unfortunately, did not survive.
“The Zambia Police Service would like to provide an update on the case of suspected self-harm reported at Monze Mission Hospital. The victim was rushed to Monze Mission Hospital in critical condition on February 18, 2025, and was later evacuated to Maina Soko Military Hospital, where he had been receiving treatment until February 23, 2025, around 20:00 hours, when he succumbed to his injuries,” he said.
Mr Daka added that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
