PARTY CADRES TOLD TO AVOID COURT PREMISES DURING ECL'S ELIGIBILITY CASE

Government has ordered political party cadres to stay away from court premises during the expected ruling on preliminary issues, in the eligibility case involving former President Edgar Lungu, this week.

Addressing the media in Lusaka on Sunday, Home Affairs and Internal security Minister Jack Mwiimbu says the government has received information that some cadres intend to cause anarchy at the courts.
Mr. Mwiimbu says police will be deployed to maintain law and order and that some roads will be closed during the court session, while cautioning police officers to act professionally as they undertake the assignment.
The preliminary ruling is on whether the court can proceed to hear the main matter, arguing that Mr. Lungu’s eligibility case was already dealt with by the same Constitutional Court.
