Expelled Chilubi Member of Parliament Mulenga Fube has charged that the nullification of 9 Patriotic Front parliamentary seats was strategically executed to facilitate constitutional changes, potentially extending the presidential term limit and removing former President Edgar Lungu’s immunity.
Speaking when he featured on the Friday edition of Phoenix FM’s "Let the people talk" program, Mr Fube alleged that Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Moses Moyo, was influenced to declare the seats vacant.
Mr Fube who has criticized the move as a deliberate effort by the UPND to consolidate power and alter key constitutional provisions says the affected MPs would explore every possible avenue to challenge the Deputy Speaker’s decision.
Despite the dismissal of these accusations by State House Chief Communications Specialist Clayson Hamasaka who asserted that President Hichilema has no involvement in the internal conflicts of the PF, Mr Fube insists that the ruling party is involved and currently working on weakening key institutions of governance.
Meanwhile, Vice President Mutale Nalumango has maintained that the UPND government is not involved in the current PF wrangles which have resulted in the national assembly declaring 9 opposition seats vacant.
Speaking in parliament during the vice president`s question time this morning, Mrs. Nalumango says government is currently focusing on addressing the challenges that the country faces such as the drought situation which has affected different parts of the country.
