The Food Reserve Agency (FRA) has announced that it will be packaging maize into 25kg and 10kg bags, which will be sold at prices of K165 and K66 respectively.
The agency also plans to start selling maize in smaller packages under the community sales programme to better meet the needs of vulnerable households.
This is in addition to the 50kg bags that are already being sold.
The initiative is targeted towards households in 84 drought-affected districts that have lost their standard incomes due to the drought, and aims to support government safety net programs such as the social cash transfer implemented by the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services, among others.
