PRESIDENT Hakainde Hichilema says ever since his administration introduced the free education policy, even 50 year old mothers have gone to school.
Addressing the Association for the Development of Education in Africa (ADEA) at State House yesterday, President Hichilema stated that education is the best investment in the world.
He said there's need to push for foundational learning in the African continent as it opens up more opportunities for individuals.
"Education to us, is the best investment. Nothing beats education, what brought me to this chair is education. We have a duty to expand this opportunity to many of our children especially at a early age," said President Hichilema.
"Since we introduced free education in our country, we have seen 50 year old mothers going to school. That's important for foundational learning because that mother will make sure that the young kid and grandchild goes to school."
He revealed that his Government is looking at focusing on a holistic offering in terms of education where every individual has access to information at an early age.
"What I didn't do, we are now doing with these kids. We need to begin to push the agenda, every country must offer early childhood education. We need to support all the population profiles. Education is the best investment, equaliser and inheritance," he added.
The Head of State who is also the Champion for foundational learning, stated that he will do his best to ensure that as many children as possible go back to school.
And ADEA Executive Secretary Albert Nsengiyumvwa commended President Hichilema for transforming the education sector in the country.
