COURT ORDERS FORFEITURE OF CHARITY KATANGA'S BUSES AND FUNDS

The Lusaka Magistrate Court has ordered the forfeiture of ten Higer buses and funds from Chibeka Express Limited, linked to former Deputy Inspector General of Police Ms. Charity Katanga, to the State. This decision follows a Conviction-Based Forfeiture application by the Drug Enforcement Commission (DEC), which identified these assets as proceeds of crime. The ruling aligns with Section 10 of the Forfeiture of Proceeds of Crime Act No. 19 of 2010.

Ms. Katanga, along with unidentified accomplices, allegedly acquired these assets between January 1, 2017, and June 6, 2022. The court's decision highlights the commitment of the Zambian Criminal Justice System to address economic and financial crimes, demonstrating effective inter-agency collaboration among Law Enforcement Agencies and the National Prosecution Authority (NPA).

The DEC reaffirmed its dedication to holding individuals accountable for criminal activities and reclaiming illicit assets for the public benefit.
