BANK OF ZAMBIA CLARIFIES CHEQUE PHASING OUT RUMOURS

THE Bank of Zambia (BoZ) is urging the public to disregard a social media notice claiming cheques will be phased out.

Yesterday, a statement allegedly issued by the central bank went round stating that BOZ was passing out cheques.

BoZ have admitted of having consultations over the phasing out of cheques but are yet to conclude.

They have therefore appealed to the public to ignore the false statement.

"The Bank of Zambia has not issued a public notice on phasing out cheques," said Besnat Mwanza, Assistant Director of Communications for BoZ.

"While we are discussing this possibility with stakeholders, consultations are ongoing and no decision has been made."

The Bank of Zambia said it will issue an official statement once consultations are complete and a decision is reached.
