ERB SPEEDS UP APPROVAL OF POWER PURCHASE AGREEMENTS
The Energy Regulation Board-ERB- says it has in an effort to alleviate the current power challenges, resolved to promptly approve any power purchase agreements that Zesco Limited identifies as opposed to previous instances where this would take time.
Speaking when he featured on a special program on Phoenix FM last evening, ERB Board Chairperson James Banda also indicated that the board is now looking at energy solutions that will go beyond the current power deficit situation.
Mr. Banda observes that the ongoing power shortages in the country have presented an opportunity to identify lasting solutions but warned that while the ERB is applying light handed regulations as part of the suctions; it will not allow any manipulation of citizens by any player in the sector.
On the same program, Zesco Limited Board Chairperson Vicson Ncube said the power company is also being more practical with current power projects in ensuring Zambia does not experience any load shedding in the future.
Mr. Ncube says Zesco is looking at growth based solutions which will be implemented in the shortest possible time, further stating that Zambia remains potentially high with regards to finding other alternative energy sources such as waste products for thermal power and the sun for solar energy.
