The Electoral Commission of Zambia-ECZ- says the electoral code of conduct has provisions that prohibit the use of insults or hate speech during campaigns.
ECZ Vice Chairperson ALI SIMWINGA says the commission through the code of conduct has the power to suspend or disqualify any political party or candidate that uses hate speech to campaign during an election.
Speaking after a meeting with candidates for the Ikomba ward by election in Nakonde District, Mr. SIMWINGA said no party or person can win an election through hatred for others.
He said the commission has done all the ground work to ensure that the right information is given to the electorate as well as political parties to ensure that all by elections are peaceful and free of violence.
