ACTING PRESIDENT WARNS FAILURE BY ZAMBIANS TO MAINTAIN PEACE MAY RESULT IN SOME CITIZENS BECOMING REFUGEES IN FOREIGN COUNTRIES


 As Zambia joins the rest of the world in commemorating World Refugee Day, Acting Republican President Mutale Nalumango has warned that failure by Zambians to maintain peace and unity may result in some citizens becoming refugees elsewhere.

Speaking at Meheba Refugee Camp when she met with traditional leaders ahead of the official commemoration of the World Refugee Day today under the theme: solidarity with refugees", Mrs. Nalumango has pledged Zambia’s continued support for refugees and other people of interest with support from the United Nations High Commission for refugees-UNHCR-.
And Mrs. Nalumango has underscored the importance of the central government collaborating with traditional leaders in Zambia to address ongoing challenges of food and energy shortages in the country.
Mrs. Nalumango who is in Meheba to also officially launch the Meheba refugee resettlement Rural Electrification Authority-REA- grid extension project, has underscored the importance for Zambians to embrace alternative energy sources such as solar as the country struggles to sustain electricity supply on hydro-power infrastructure.
Meanwhile, senior Chief Mumena of the Kaonde speaking people of North-Western Province has thanked Mrs. Nalumango for reiterating the importance of collaboration between the central government and traditional leadership in finding solutions to ongoing national challenges.
