GOVT`S PARTIAL APOLOGY TO CATHOLIC CHURCH CRITICIZED

Patriots for Economic Progress-PEP Leader Sean Tembo says government’s apology to the catholic church over the disruption of a private meeting between former President Edgar Lungu and Catholic Bishop Clement Mulenga by a police officer in Kabwe should not be accepted by the church because it is partial.

Mr. Tembo has questioned under what moral standard Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu found it necessary to apologize only to the bishop and the church, but not to Mr. Lungu when there were two parties having the said private meeting.
Meanwhile, Mr. Tembo has reminded Mr. Mwiimbu that the former head of state has a constitutional right to go wherever he pleases in this country without any hindrance from government.
He says the only way that Mr. Lungu can be denied his constitutional right to freely travel around the country is if government has suspended the constitution.
Home Affairs and Internal Security Minister Jack Mwiimbu yesterday apologized to the catholic church for the incident involving a police officer in Kabwe who stormed Catholic Bishop Clement Mulenga’s Parish office on Friday and attempted to stop a courtesy call by former President Edgar Lungu.
