POLICE WARN CITIZENS OVER THE NEW ZNS MEALIE MEAL SCAM

Amid the escalating prices of mealie meal, the Zambian government, through the Zambia National Service (ZNS), initiated the production of a more affordable alternative.

While this initiative has been positively received, reports have surfaced indicating unfair trading practices among some traders. These fraudulent activities have resulted in the apprehension of certain individuals by law enforcement in Lusaka.

It is imperative to note that the ZNS mealie meal is not intended for resale, and any individual found engaging in such activities will be held accountable by the Zambian Police. Despite the implementation of these measures, reports emerged of individuals repackaging the ZNS millie meal in Pembe sacks (Among others) at an inflated price, yielding substantial profits. Notably, a family, believed to be of foreign nationality, was found involved in this illicit activity.

Furthermore, it is suspected that the apprehended suspects are collaborating with additional individuals, although specific details have not been disclosed to the media.

It is crucial for the Zambian government to swiftly address these illicit trading practices to ensure that the intended purpose of providing affordable mealie meal to citizens is not compromised.

Collaboration between law enforcement agencies and local communities is essential in uncovering and putting an end to such fraudulent activities.

By working together, we can uphold fairness and integrity in the distribution of essential food supplies and safeguard the well-being of all Zambians. Let us remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior to the authorities to uphold justice and transparency in our society.
