Chelston Police Station received a report on February 21, 2024, at 1230 hours from Ms. Margret Banda, a 26-year-old student at Lusaka Health Institute, residing in Silverest.
According to Ms. Banda's account, the incident occurred on February 20, 2024, around 2300 hours at Rocks Student Apartment in Silverest.
Ms. Banda sought to retrieve a gate key from Mr. Million Banda so that she could join her friend waiting who was outside. Regrettably, the encounter took a violent turn as Mr. Banda began verbally abusing and physically assaulting Ms. Banda.
The situation escalated when Mr. Million Banda reportedly pointed an unknown firearm at Ms. Banda, threatening her safety.
Fearing for her life, Ms. Banda pleaded with Mr. Banda until he eventually lowered the weapon.
Following the harrowing experience, Ms. Banda courageously decided to report the incident to Chelston Police Station.
Police promptly initiated an investigation into the matter and successfully apprehended Mr. Million Banda.
During the arrest, a firearm identified as a Star Fire, Serial number DK 744912, Calibre 9mm, silver in color, along with 6 rounds of ammunition, was seized from Mr. Banda's residence.
The suspect is currently in police custody, and a case docket has been opened.
The Zambia Police Service urges the public to remain vigilant and report any instances of violence promptly.
