CORNELIUS MWEETWA CLARIFIES STATEMENT ON UPND SPONSORING KAMBWILI`S TRIBAL REMARKS

Information and Media Minister Cornelius Mweetwa says he was misquoted and taken out of context regarding alleged collaboration between the UPND and former Information Minister Chishimba Kambwili to issue tribal remarks aimed at de-campaigning Former President Edgar Lungu and the Patriotic Front-PF.

Mr. Mweetwa has found himself entangled in a media storm after he allegedly made remarks suggesting that the UPND had collaborated with Mr Kambwili in orchestrating tribal remarks to bring down former President Lungu and the PF ahead of the 2021 general election.
But during a telephone interview on Phoenix FM's Breakfast Show this morning, Mr. Mweetwa said his comments had been misconstrued and taken out of context and further stated that he never insinuated any formal agreement or collaboration between the UPND and Mr. Kambwili.
Mr. Mweetwa says his intention was to highlight the impact of Kambwili's actions and tribal remarks, which inadvertently worked against the PF, while concurrently acknowledging the UPND's independent efforts to defeat the former ruling party.
Meanwhile, the Citizens first party has described revelations by Mr. Mweetwa that the UPND sponsored Mr. Kambwili to issue tribal remarks as criminal and serious.
Party Spokesperson Frank Sichone has since urged Zambians never to make a mistake again of voting for individuals that promote tribalism as confirmed by the Chief Government Spokesperson.
