The Zambian Civil Liberties Union –ZCLU- is calling on Minister of Water Development and Sanitation, Mike Mposha to immediately dissolve the Water Resources Management Authority-WARMA- board for allegedly being compromised.
ZCLU Executive Director Isaac Mwanza alleges that the WARMA board played and continues to play a significant role in shielding the recently arrested WARMA Director General during the critical period of investigation by the anti-corruption commission -ACC-.
Mr Mwanza is also calling on the ACC to protect whistleblowers and potential witnesses who are likely to face victimization following the arrest of the WARMA Director General.
He says there are fears that the WARMA board may resort to victimization tactics against potential witnesses, hence the need for the commission to exercise its legal powers to safeguard whistleblowers and potential witnesses.
The ACC recently arrested and charged WARMA Director General Kenneth Nyundu for alleged corruption involving over K700, 000.
But Water and Sanitation Minister Mike Mposha says it is too early to call for the dissolution of the WARMA board saying procedure has to be followed and that the ACC has just started prosecuting the matter.
