AS Lusaka residents are still trying to get over a recent somber video in which a four-year-old boy narrated how his step mum allegedly assaulted him using a knife and other weapons, another mother is in court for assaulting her daughter.
It was allegedly as punishment because the little one never washed the dishes.
Elina Mwaleza, 25, a sales Lady of Kamwala South, has since been dragged to court charged with assault on a child, an offense attracting a minimum five-year jail term.
On December 16, 2023, Mwaleza allegedly assaulted SM.
When the case came up before Lusaka magistrate Mutinta Mwenya, the accused pleaded not guilty to assaulting the victim before the prosecution team informed the court that it would call three witnesses in the case during trial.
The magistrate then asked the whereabouts of the victim and was informed that she was being kept by the Department of Social Welfare.
Magistrate Mwenya advised the accused not to interfere with the witnesses I'm the matter.
"Don't is interfere with the witnesses, especially the child," Magistrate Mwenya said
The trial starts on February 14 this year.
