GOVT URGED TO SUSPEND ALL PUBLIC GATHERINGS TO COMBAT CHOLERA





The United Health and Allied Workers Union of Zambia President Daniel Mwimbe has advised the government to suspend all public gatherings to assist combat the cholera epidemic quicker.


Mr. Mwimbe tells Phoenix News in an interview that simply restricting church sessions for two hours may not be enough to stop a cholera epidemic, especially in regions where people are resistant to behavioral change.


He adds that maintaining health guidelines at nightclubs and bars, weddings, funerals, and other social functions is difficult, which is likely to lead to further chaos.


And Medical for Quality Health Care In Zambia-MQHZ- Executive Director Quince Mwabu has suggested that for Zambia to win the fight against cholera, all forms of public gathering must be avoided with proper enforcement.  


According to yesterday’s daily cholera update by the ministry of health, 23 people died out of 446 cases recorded while 550 people were discharged.
