GOVT STILL SLOW IN COMBATING CORRUPTION-HABASONDA

Former Transparency International Zambia -TIZ- President Lee Habasonda says despite notable strides that Zambia has made in the fight against, government is still too slow to combat the scourge.

According to the latest 2023 corruption perception index report released by TIZ, Zambia has for the first time in 10 years improved its corruption perception index score progressing from 33 out of 100 in 2022 to 37 out of 100 in 2023, subsequently improving the country’s rank by 18 places from 116 out of 180 countries in 2022 to 98 out of 180 countries in 2023.

Commenting on this Development, Mr. Habasonda acknowledged the positive change but expressed concern over government's pace in addressing corruption and emphasized that, unless there is a swift change, the status quo will persist.

He tells Phoenix News that the fight against corruption requires a collective commitment to ensure a lasting impact hence the need for enhanced efforts from all sectors to sustain and build upon the progress made.
