ABOUT 400,000 FINGERLINGS RELEASED INTO THE MARKET TO MEET DEMAND FOR FISH

By Michael Kaluba

The National Aquaculture Research Center has this year released approximately 400, 000 fingerlings into the market in an effort to meet the increasing demand for fish production.

Edwin Kikamba, Principle Aqua-Culture Research Officer at the

Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock has disclosed to Phoenix News that there has been a significant increase in the number of farmers interested in fish growing since 2019.

Mr. Kikamba further says the ministry has improved farmer and field officer training, as well as disseminating new technologies and producing fish feed at the national research station.

He states that the center has seen a considerable growth in the number of farmers engaged in fish farming and that the high price of stock feed has continued to impact the production of sufficient fingerlings to fulfill demand.
