The Zambia Chamber of Commerce and Industry –ZACCI- has advised government to take deliberate initiatives and regulatory reforms that will trigger growth for small and medium enterprises -smes-as they have the ability to diversify the economy.
In an interview with Phoenix News, ZACCI President Chabuka Kawesha says to support this, government needs to get rid of over taxing and over regulating the SME sector and create a platform that the entrepreneurs can leverage on.
Dr Kawesha explains that once this is achieved, the economy will be able to witness an expanded contribution to the country’s Gross Domestic Product –GDP.
He is of the view that the local economy will not thrive if the country does not diversify beyond copper, mining and agriculture, but requires other new methods which smes have the potential to bring on board.
