Former Mines and Minerals Development Minister Richard Musukwa has sued the Drug Enforcement Commission -DEC-for what he describes as illegal seizure of his properties in Chililabombwe on the Copperbelt and Lusaka’s State Lodge area.
DEC recently seized Mr. Musukwa`s property in State Lodge which contains seven houses and other several assets in Chililabombwe in line with the terms of section 15 of Prohibition and Prevention of Money Laundering Act no.14 of 2001 saying there are reasonable grounds for believing that they are liable to seizure.
In his petition to the High Court, Mr. Musukwa is contending that the properties seized by the commission were acquired way before he joined politics.
Addressing the media in Lusaka this morning, Mr. Musukwa said he has decided to take legal action against the decision by the commission as he believes that their actions are illegal and mere political persecution.
Mr. Musukwa claims that all the properties under seizure were legally obtained from his many years as a businessman and a public servant who served in different portfolios.
