FOUR criminals behind a spate of robberies and impersonating themselves as police officers on the Copperbelt have been gunned down by police.
It is believed that the crimes happened in Kitwe and Ndola between March and May this year.
Police have since warned members of the public to be alert and wary of suspicious conduct, as five others are still at large.
Copperbelt Province Commanding officer Sharon Zulu who confirmed the matter said that police had gunned down four criminals who committed crimes under the guise of being police officers.
“We have since recovered an AK47 riffle, a pistol, a combat, a Toyota Allion vehicle among other items. After investigations police apprehended Evans Kalenga aged 37 of Chifubu who revealed that he was in company of Banda other names not known, an ex soldier of Mufurila, Phillimon Fwantaneni of Twapia Ndola, Haggai other names not known and Nathan Mulenga of Lubuto,” she said.
“In the process of recovering of firearms in Chichele plantation , the criminals charged at the police officers and were instead gunned down. The four gunned down criminals during an exchange of fire was Kalenga, Phillimon Sumaili aged 28 of Twapia, Katontola Sakapalu aged 30 of Mine Masala and Nathan Mulenga aged 33 of Lubuto,” she said.
